Position Title: Front-End Developer
Project: Citizen Observatory Platform
Location: Remote(Kenya)
Duration: 45 Days
Reporting to: Program Manager and ICT Officer
Background
This Ability is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting disability-inclusive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). We are developing a secure, scalable, and user-friendly Citizen Observatory Platform that enables efficient collection and management of SGBV, SRHR, and related cases while maintaining data integrity, security, and comprehensive audit trails. The platform will serve as a central hub for evidence-based advocacy and decision-making. The platform will allow capturing of reports and incidents, visualizing county-level trends, managing case workflows, and supporting data-driven advocacy.
To ensure the platform is intuitive, accessible, and user-friendly for all users, especially those with disabilities. We are seeking a skilled Front-End Developer to support the design and development of the platform’s user interface.
Goal
To design and develop an inclusive, responsive, and accessible front-end interface for the Citizen Observatory Platform that ensures a smooth user experience and promotes active community participation.
Objectives
To design and develop the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) of the Citizen Observatory Platform, ensuring accessibility, responsiveness, and seamless integration with the backend system.
Scope of Work
The Front-End Developer will be expected to:
- Develop the platform’s user interface based on approved designs and system specifications.
- Implement responsive design for web and mobile access.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) for users with disabilities.
- Integrate with backend APIs to display verified data and analytics.
- Develop interactive dashboards and data visualization tools for public users and administrators.
- Collaborate with the ICT Officer to ensure smooth integration and performance optimization.
- Conduct testing, debugging, and user experience refinement.
- Provide technical documentation and a handover report upon completion.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience in front-end frameworks such as React.js, Vue.js, or Angular.
- Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and TailwindCSS.
- Experience in data visualization using tools like Chart.js or D3.js.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integration techniques.
- Solid understanding of accessibility (WCAG) and inclusive design principles.
- Strong skills in responsive design and performance optimization.
- Experience integrating front-end components with back-end APIs (Laravel preferred).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
